Viesturs Gailis & The New Chamber Orchestra of Rīga
The New Chamber Orchestra of Rīga made its debut on October 27, 2000 with a concert in the Hall of the Blackheads in Rīga. Its debut concert testified to the orchestra's desire to comprehend a wide range of music, from Handel and Mozart to Ravel and Stravinsky, and revealed the musicians' youthful and enthusiastic approach to music making. The orchestra is engaged in many activities: it presents numerous concerts, works together with the Opera Studio Figaro at the Latvian Academy of Music, with the Latvian National Theatre and various concert agencies. The 43 members of the orchestra are led by its founder, artistic director and conductor Prof. Viesturs Gailis.
